When engine tuning is not enough
you need some stomach-turning, neck-snapping, tyre-ripping mods like
Chip Re - Flashing, ECU’s, air filters and exhausts e.t.c… these
don’t just sound good – they deliver as well! At Redline Tuning we
can carry out everything you need to get the most out of your car!
Shown
above is a car being 'chip tuned' by a laptop plugged into the car
via OBD socket. We can then read and reflash the cars ecu with a
better running programme!
Redline Tuning are able to Re-flash most makes and models
of chip. This
method of tuning is by far the most satisfying modification for
standard cars, giving you that little extra in performance and at the
same time saving you fuel.
Improve your all round performance with one simple modification.
As much as 10% performance increase on normally aspirated engines.
Up to 40% performance increase in turbo engines.

Unfortunately despite what other so
called 'tuners' are saying, this style of tuning is not custom! It is
and will only ever be generic. The files have been developed for the
same car but not your car, or your mods!!! What you need to bare in
mind is that all engines are manufactured with design tolerances
resulting in as much 10% performance differences. Now couple this
with one generic ECU. What results is a far from optimum running
engine. Now add to the mix another re mapped running file that was
produced on a similar car with a similar air filter and a similar
exhaust. Again, it is far from best. If you just want a quick cheap
engine mod to get you that bit more in performance and fuel economy
then this is for you. However, if you have spent the money on other
engine mods or intend to further enhance your engine and want the best
for you car, then you need to go one step further, a piggy back ECU
or stand alone management.
With a piggy back ecu it gives the tuner the ability to tune an
engine to its optimum. With lots of additional settings the tuner can
install any number of ecu controlled add ons ie. intercooler spray,
extra injectors, boost controllers, additional ignition and also map
switching.
Once the ecu is installed and setup for your vehicle it can be tuned
in real time on the dyno, so it enables the tuner to get the absolute
maximum from every load site and rpm range. Adjusting fuel load,
ignition timing and boost pressures.
With the addition of a switch the tuner can install two maps ie. one
for 95 ron fuel and one for ultimate 99 ron fuel or high boost and low
boost.
Also the tuner can install a variable knob to give the user on the
fly changes for example boost pressure.
A piggy back ecu controller is ideal for getting the most out of your
factory ecu whilst taking in to account minor mods such as camshafts,
turbo upgrades, air filter and exhaust mods. The unit is also capable
of setting up larger injectors from standard (approx 30% in size
difference)
The other benefit of a piggy back system is that its relatively
future proof. It can be removed and installed on your next car, also
it can be tuned for a standard car and at a later date re tuned for
further mods you have made.
For ultimate set up and more extreme mods you will need to upgrade to
a full stand alone management system.
Stand alone engine management
For ultimate control of engine conversions and performance mods, a
replacement ecu will need to be used. These ecu's are motorsport spec and
capable of controlling your engine and other systems very precisely.
They allow the tuner to map each load site and rpm range in real time, so
on a dyno the operator can extract best engine performance at every load
and rpm site. Most ecu's also allow closed loop boost control, closed
loop lamda control (to keep emissions down) and many other user
programmable outputs.
An aftermarket engine control ecu is by far the best way to control
modern turbo charged and heavily modified engines, how ever they are over
kill and a waste of money on standard or lightly tuned engines except
when you are planning further mods at a later date.
When it comes to tuning carbs, many things need to be taken into account
-- it really isn’t as simple as adjusting the CO and off you go!
Here at Redline Tuning we specialise in multiple carburettor set ups. A
typical set of twin 45 Weber DCOE has many adjustable factors: idle jets,
main jets, air correctors, air bleeds, CO, injection pumps and jets -- to
name but a few.
In order for your engine to respond well under any situation all these
items need to be checked and adjusted. At Redline Tuning we carry a full
set of idle, airs and mains for both Weber and Dellorto carburettors. We
also stock jet drills from 0.20mm up to 2.5mm typically in 0.05
increments so you can be assured your jets are spot on for your
application not just “there abouts”.
When we carry out a full set up on your vehicle, we will start with a
full carburettor balance and basic inspection, we will then run your car
on our in house rolling road to ascertain if further improvements can be
made.
After each adjustment to the jets we check again to make sure the
modifications are taking us in the correct direction of more power. Some
engines produce more power on a leaner mixture; others need more fuel so
it isn't as simple as more fuel equals more power. This whole operation
is carried out on our latest computer equipment using wide band AFR
meters and data logging equipment.

Custom motorsport spec wiring looms
Redline Tuning custom build wiring harnesses made to your requirements.
Weather it be for a stand-alone management system or as a replacement for
an original harness that is no longer of a serviceable condition we can
manufacture an OE spec loom.
The fitting of a aftermarket stand alone ecu is one thing however the
wiring of it is another matter entirely many people attempt to cut and
shut the existing engine harness which all be it no matter how well done
always leaves the reliability factor to be considered. In such a hostile
environment will it stand up to the task?? Well After many years in a
motorsport environment we know that there is no substitute for
manufacturing a loom specific to the job in which it is intended.
Therefore this is why all of our wiring harnesses are built from scratch
unique to the application.
We carry a full stock of OE spec connectors and wiring to enable us to
build a harness that will never let you down, at a price that you can
afford.
